Chelsea Handler is leaving late-night television and moving to a new network.  What do you think of her new show premise?

There's nothing else I can say about this cover song other than it gave me c-h-i-l-l-s.  As much as I tend to eat up most UK influences, I am really loving Sam Smith's presence in the music world these days!  He is a true talent.

So much is going on in Boston's music scene. After discovering Bearstronaut at We Are Music in February, the JUGs are hooked on their "tank top pop" sound. The awesome news is that they are having a show tomorrow night at TT and the Bears and tickets are only $9!

Also, keep your eyes peeled for tickets to the Hall & Oates show at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion (formerly the Bank of America Pavilion) this June. It is sure to be an epic show.

JUGs fav Lana Del Rey is also playing a show soon. You can find her at the House of Blues on May 6th. 

N E T W O R K

If you're on the job hunt, or just need some inspiration, there are a bunch of great networking events happening around this week. The BOS Lady Project is hosting a game of "networking bingo" at Whiskey Priest tomorrow night. This event should be great for those who have a little trouble coming out of their shell.

On Wednesday, Lux & Concord is hosting cocktails, shopping, and mingling at Cyntha Rowley on Newbury St. This might be the perfect time to pick up a cocktail dress for wedding season.

If you're into sports, maybe the #SBWeek Boston Sports Business Networking event on Tuesday is more your speed.

This is the second week of Dine Out Boston! The JUGs are planning to check out Capital Grille, but there are tons of other options on the list. Did you go out last week? If so, would you recommend that restaurant?

JUGs Approved Award Season Fashion

One bonus the winter months provide is award season!  There were a few events this past week to kick it off, and tomorrow's Golden Globes continues the red carpet roll.  Let's take a look at some JUGs-Approved outfits from the Palm Springs Film Festival and People's Choice Awards to see who rocked it and which trends may translate into fashion later this year.  And the "winners" were:

JUGs 101 in 1001: Writer's Resolutions for 2014 and beyond

Yikes, 2014?!  In honor of the new year, we wanted to share our goals with y-o-u!  Once we read Mackenzie's list of 101 goals in 1001 days (almost 3 years), we decided to follow suit in creating our own lists but of course putting a JUGs-like spin on it.  Since there are three of us who make this blog possible, we'll be presenting a list from each of us over the next three days, starting with our collective goals and those from your truly.

Style Icon: Grace Potter

I am seeing Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in their home state of Vermont this weekend and I could not be more pumped. They are amazing live and Grace is fabulously entertaining on stage. I've been to four Grace shows - and I am always awed by her outfit. She gives old-school rock'n'roll a taste of modern feminine glam.

Her must-haves? a short black dress, glitter, rocker-chic accessories, and a LOT of energy! My picks to dress like Grace:

End of Summer playlist

Legends at Fenway

No, not baseball legends...

You'll know where I'll be tonight.  Still pinching myself that I'm seeing these two handsome guys.  It is the perfect weather for a night out, let alone at Fenway with performances by appropriately-named legends!  From what I've researched, they will not even have an opening act, that's how epic they're expected to be for cities they're touring together...

I came across this recent piece by Jay-Z, Picasso Baby, a mixed-media performance in Brooklyn.  You'll recognize some other famous faces, identified at the end of the short 8-minute film.  I have always admired Jay-Z and think he is truly a philosophical artist.  My favorite takeaway from him in this is: 

"Rap is pretty much thinking out loud, you're talking and you're putting your fears and your vulernabilities, and you're, ya know, you're putting your bravado, insecurities, all on music; And it's there for the world to see.  Out there for everyone to see.  You're really giving a glimpse into who you are."

If he was this interactive with this intimate audience in an art gallery for minutes, I can only imagine the spirit he'll be bringing to Fenway for hours!  If you missed out on tickets, here's a sample playlist of the tour setlist, via Spotify.

No, I didn't forget about Justin.  It's a given that he never disappoints in any of his performances.

Sunday's True Confession: I am Space Cops' Sister

Any of you gals fans of  Kathy Griffin? Well, I’m sorry to say that her Bravo show was cancelled after its second season, but this week’s true confession goes back to Kathy’s first season: I am Space Cops’ sister. Space Cops is a sci-fi movie inspired electronic “band.” My brother’s first live performance (as Space Cops) was on the Kathy Show. Woah. Enjoy the vid!

Well, we're finally in the midst of spring weather!  This means the start of deck/backyard parties BBQs and more.  I created a playlist from some of my favorite jams recently that I've been listening to at work to pass the day (pausing when the phone rings, of course).  Most of these will sure to be included at our next event.  You can listen via Spotify.

2013 Boston Concert Preview

Attending concerts is most definitely one of my favorite pastimes.  I've been an avid Dave Matthews Band fan for decades (up to eights shows so far) and just love their live performance and ever impressive set list.  As great as Dave & Co. are, I'm trying to add a bit more variety between both artists and venues whenever possible.  Last month, I saw Mumford & Sons, whose performance left me with chills.  This year, I feel lucky enough to attend two shows in the coming months that are both quite the commodity...

Although the band was formed in 1967, many of us '80s JUG babies are fans of the great Fleetwood Mac.  Earlier this winter, they recently announced a reunion tour and will be gracing Boston with their presence for ONE night only, April 18th at the Garden.

When it was announced that Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z were touring together, fans went wild.  As soon as I heard this show was at Fenway, I knew I had to be there with some fellow JUGs.  Fenway is an underrated venue for music lovers due to the park's intimacy.  I've seen DMB x2 and Bruce Springsteen here before.  JT & Hova together in our city is bound to be epic...legendary, indeed!

If you haven't already been, another great venue is the Pavillion on Northern Ave in the Seaport District.  A summer concert here is far better than the lawn out at the Comcast Center in Mansfield (formerly Great Woods).  There is no general admission (no thank you!) and you really can't have a bad view of the featured artist.  Worse case scenario, if you happen to be seated behind a pole, you're still seeing one of your favorite performers right on the water...truly perfect on a summer night!

If music festivals are more the thing for you and your gal pals, there are plenty of options this year in greater New England and beyond.  Boston Calling is a new event happening at the end of May right in City Hall Plaza.  Tickets are affordable and the medley of artists make this event pretty attractive!  Eventually, I'd love to attend Bonnaroo (TN), Coachella (CA) or Lollapalooza (IL) festivals.

Seeing some of my choice artists while also exploring a new US city would be great, too (Red Rocks is definitely on my bucket list!).  Who are you most looking forward to seeing on stage this year?  Any advice to those still trying to get tickets for a sold-out show?
