Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Have you noticed all the pink popping up all over Boston lately? Well incase you didn't second guess it, pink is not just a fun color to sprinkle in all marketing campaigns. Pink is the official color for all things related to breast cancer awareness and you guessed it, October is breast cancer awareness month.

Breast cancer affects one in eight women and is the second leading cause of death for women. Whether you have known someone affected by the disease or not, it is always important to be aware of the disease and ways in which you can prevent it or help someone diagnosed.

For more information on the disease, this site has loads of information on suspected genetic and environmental causes, as well as self examination tips. Please remember that while self examinations do help to detect the disease, it is a very good idea to ask your doctor about mammograms, especially if the disease has affected someone in your family.

Two great sites* for fundraising and donating to breast cancer research:

Do you have any breast cancer fundraisers that you'd like to share? We'd love to hear more about what you gals are doing in the community and more ways to help.

*Note: Always be cautious and do extensive research before giving to any donation. There are a number of fraudulent charity sites and programs out there.
